Works of art
A significant number of Finnish works of art has been deposited at the premises of the Supreme Court. Most of these works come from the collections of the Ateneum and Kiasma art museums, which are both part of the Finnish National Gallery, and the State Art Commission.
The most significant historical works of art on the premises include Pekka Halonen's paintings depicting the Finnish winter landscapes, which are characteristic of the Golden Age of Finnish Art (1880-1910).
Modern art is represented by, for example, a large, three-part (triptych) painting by Mari Rantanen from 1991. Other works of art on the premises have been created by such artists as Kari Cavén, Ulla Rantanen, Marjatta Tapiola, and Kuutti Lavonen.
In addition to visual arts, sculptures by, for example, Kimmo Pyykkö, Ukri Merikanto, Antero Toikka, and Pekka Kauhanen and ceramics by Päivi Rintaniemi and Leena Juvonen are also displayed on the premises.
Portraits of the former Presidents of the Supreme Court, comprising 13 paintings in total, are exhibited on the walls of the main plenary hall. The Supreme Court owns these paintings.
In all, more than 100 works of art from Finnish artists are exhibited on the court premises.
